F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions...
Q. Do I have to "air my dirty laundry" in front of a bunch of people?
A. No. We do not require anyone to disclose any personal or sensitive information in front of other participants.  There will be times where you will work with your partner directly to share such information.  When the group reconvenes, sharing at that point will be voluntary.

Q, Is this the same as therapy?
A. It is not the same degree or intensity as therapy. It is definitely "therapeutic," but the approach is educational.  For an individualized couples intensive or retreat with just you both and the therapist, please reach out to Dr. Marni directly.

Q. How many participants are in a workshop?
A. We allow up to about 30 people total.  We have had anywhere from 12 - 30 people each time.

Q. Is this workshop okay for "non-traditional" couples?
A.  There is research that demonstrates effectiveness of EFT and the HMT program for those who are LGBTQ as well as those with different cultural backgrounds and ages. Couples may be married or not married and in a committed relationship. We welcome ALL couples to this program!

Q. Is there any type of couple that should not attend?
A. This program is contraindicated for those with any form of abuse or violence in the relationship or on-going infidelity. If your relationship is highly distressed, it is better to see an EFT therapist for regular therapy instead.  If you are unsure, please contact us for a brief screening.

Q. How do you determine the cost?
A.  The presenters determine cost based on the same HMT program done other parts of the country.  This is also based on their time for preparation, presenting the actual program, renting space, providing food, etc. The average cost of quality counseling in South Florida is approximately $150 - $250 per hour.  This makes the workshop a bargain!

Q. Do you offer any discounts?
A. No, we offer one lowest possible rate for all couples.

Q. What is the refund policy?
A.  Cancellation 2 weeks or more prior to start date, 100% refund minus an administration fee of $15. If less than 2 weeks notice, you will receive 25% refund OR use the payment for a future workshop at no extra fee or additional charges. We can always hold your payment for a future workshop if requested with no extra fee.  We only have a limited number of slots, so please be mindful to cancel with as much notice as possible so we may offer your slot to another couple. If there is an "act of God" or nature, we will offer an alternative date(s) and apply your payment. We will only offer refunds on a case-by-case basis if the alternate date(s) are not feasible.  If a full refund is still requested, it will be given minus an administration fee of $15. You will be credited back any paid administration fee if you sign up for a workshop at any time in the future.

Q. Can I get CEU's for my license by attending this workshop?
A. Yes! We are able to offer CEUs for all licensed professionals and psychologists under the Florida board for a small extra fee of $19.99. There will be a sign-in sheet at the workshop. Upon the workshop ending, go to the K2Visionaries (contracted provider) website  within 48 hours for CEU's. A credit card is required for payment.  These instructions will be reviewed at the workshop as well. As a therapist, you will learn in an experiential way about the science of love, attachment, EFT while bonding more with your partner.

Q. Is there anything I can read or do prior to coming to prepare me better for the workshop?
A.  It is not necessary, but, encouraged for you to read Hold Me Tight and/or Love Sense both by Dr. Sue Johnson.  You may also read Emotionally Focused Therapy for Dummies by Dr. Brent Bradley and Dr. James Furrow.  An Emotionally Focused Workbook for Couples was recently released and recommended as well. These books are also helpful after attending the program to retain the information and further your growth.  There is an article on the Psychology Today website by Dr. Sue Johnson as well.  Marni has an article published on  her blog and the popular website YourTango about this program.

Q. What recommendations/resources would you give clinicians to learn EFT?
A. We recommend The Practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy textbook and Becoming An Emotionally-Focused Couple Therapist Workbook by Dr. Sue Johnson.  Training starts with an "4-Day Externship" followed up by "2-Day Core Skills."  Dates for these training opportunities and more information can be found at www.ICEEFT.com under the "training events" link on the right sidebar.

Q. What if I want couples or individual therapy after attending this program?
A. Feel free to contact either presenter to discuss your options for treatment in their practices or with help with locating a practitioner in your local area if you do not live nearby.
For Palm Beach/Broward/Miami-Dade County EFT trained therapists, go to the South Florida Community for EFT Website.

Q.  I live out of the area...how can I find a local therapist trained in EFT?
A.  Go to www.ICEEFT.com and click on the "find a therapist" tab to search for a list of therapists and HMT programs all over the world.

Q. If I attend this workshop from out of the area, what hotels do you recommend?
A. We recommend Marriott, Wyndham or Renaissance hotels nearby.  If you are looking for something fancier, try Boca Resort or Waterstone Resort, but, they are a little further away from the workshop location.  You are also welcome to find your own accommodations.

Q.  My relationship is fine, so, why should I attend this workshop?
A.  The workshop will enhance and deepen your connection even more.  It is a wonderful experience to share together.  I guarantee that you will learn something new about your partner over the weekend!

Q. What if my spouse comes reluctantly?
A.
This does happen sometimes. We have had partners who are pleasantly surprised by the workshop and enjoy it. We have others who are determined to dislike it and find ways to not get something out of it. We always hope for the former, but it certainly doesn't always happen.

Q. Will you be doing other types of workshops?
A.  Yes, we have had requests for something for engaged/newly married couples, singles, and "date nights."  We will be doing lots of workshops/events...keep checking the website. Or, to make it really easy, sign up for our newsletters on our personal websites, www.TheTalkingSolution.com and www.JessicaMarchena.com.
